PRESS RELEASE

“The Ultimate Underwater Adventure”

Continuing to receive high praise since its inception in 1999 and now widely acclaimed as one of the world’s most dynamic diving events, the seventh Australasian Diving Technologies Conference and Exhibition - OZTeK’11 – will take place over the week-end of the 12th – 13th March 2011, at Australian Technology Park, in Sydney, Australia.

Having firmly established its credentials as an internationally significant diving event - one that remains focussed on the underwater adventures that new technology and techniques make possible - OZTeK‘11 will again feature one of the world’s largest gatherings of internationally renowned speakers and presenters in their respective fields of diving expertise.

Encompassing recreational, technical, occupational and scientific diving applications, the OZTeK’11 Conference topics will include: Cave and wreck diving, developments in rebreather technology, equipment selection and configuration, deep diving considerations, decompression procedures, extreme explorations, hyperbaric medicine, training programmes, occupational diving applications, search-and-rescue techniques, marine archaeology, underwater photography, diver safety and more.

Complemented by a full-scale exhibition featuring all of the latest diving developments, together with displays, breakout workshops, film and video presentations, OZTeK‘11 is an event aimed at all divers - regardless of their experience level - whose thirst for knowledge is matched only by their spirit of adventure.

Probing beyond the usual diving limits and tapping into the very core of exciting underwater experiences, it’s a two-day spectacular that no diver can afford to miss.

Full details of the action-packed OZTeK’11 event will begin to appear on the website during the coming months, but in the interim those companies and organisations with an interest in exhibiting at OZTeK’11 - or individuals with an interest in presenting talks at the conference - are invited to contact the organisers.

This event has to be one of the highlights of my year. Wouldnt miss it for the world. This event is ALL about people with a thirst for adventure, who just get out there and do it. There is something for everyone! Diving expeditions to the most amazing places, physiology, gear workshops, rebreather information, photographic and video information, etc etc etc etc. Its the Bollocks.
Here are some home truths about the event.

1. ITS NOT JUST FOR TECHIES - I know non divers that went to the event (being dragged kicking and screaming by their keen partners) and found that they had the most amazing time.

2. ITS NOT FILLED WITH CHEST BEATING, ULTRA EGO RED BLOODED MALES - you will get a chance to approach, talk to and have a glass (or 2) of wine with some of the worlds leading explorers. This is to my mind the best part of these events. Its a time to actually talk to these guys and see that they dont hold super human strength and it actually isnt that difficult to plan stuff. Hopefully that will rub off on you and you can start to persue projects that interest you and not think that it is "too hard" to do. The Gala evening event on the sunday night is an absolute must!!!!

3. IT GETS YOU AMPED!!! Man, all I want to do after these events is to get out there and go diving. So if you havent been diving for a while and need a little injection of enthusiasm then this place will do just that.

4. There will be booths there with all kinds of diving kit on offer, but it is NOT focused on selling you stuff. This is the ONLY event that does not try and sell you gear. Infact the only thing that they are SELLING is the ADVENTURE OF DIVING!!!!!!

5. Its a great place to build relationships both locally and internationally.

6. There will be loads of international charter operators where you will learn about what amazing diving there is (and by the time you realise that in order to see all the amazing places you will need to be 200 years old by the time you complete the list!!!)

Anyway. its just a cool event, something that needs supporting. I will certainly see you there.

G'Day, Folks,

Having read Pete's post, I'm feeling somehwat humbled.

I must admit that I often wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and wondering if it's worth the time, money and effort in staging another OZTeK? (My bank manager feels the same way.) But after receiving comments like these, I know that it is. :)

I know that it's still some way into the future but I do look forward to, hopefully, welcoming many of you to OZTeK'11, an event that I'm planning on making the best one yet.

With best regards

Considering how reasonable the flights to Aussie are these days it sounds like the GUE NZ contingency might get a little larger... :D

I think its really important that more Kiwis get involved. This is a perfect platform to get to know people and tap into what people are getting up to.

Like I said, there is so much in NZ and we really are lucky. We have a mature market in the sense of established dive stores but we are totally an immature market when it comes to exploration. I absolutely love it seeing people getting into their diving beyond the H/gathering stage.
So what we have here is a unique situation where we have some amazing diving, so many undiscovered wrecks and amazing diving locations just waiting for someone to find them. After events like Oztek it makes me get my finger out of the marmite and get planning. Which reminds me......... Got to get planning......

Where Diving Adventures Begin

Keeping the passion alive by putting the thrill-factor back into diving, the OZTeK’11 Advanced Diving Conference & Exhibition is rapidly gathering momentum to again prove that, “few shows in the world can pack a punch quite like Australia’s OZTeK”.

A highlight event on the calendar of international diving shows, OZTeK’11 returns to Australian Technology Park in Sydney, Australia, over the weekend of the 12 – 13 March 2011, and will again feature an exhibition showcasing the very best that the world of diving has to offer complemented by an international cast of speakers and presenters acknowledged as being among the world’s leading authorities in their respective fields of diving expertise.

With a full programme of theatre presentations, seminars and workshops spanning the complete range of diving interests - including deep wreck and cave explorations, underwater photography and film-making, hyperbaric medicine, diving safety, developments in diving technology, free-diving, marine conservation and more - the topics and talks will be both informative and entertaining, and provide the diving community with the opportunity to meet, listen to and learn from, some of modern diving’s most accomplished personalities.

Appealing to diving enthusiasts at every level of experience and interest, the OZTeK’11 Exhibition will feature the very best and latest in equipment trends and innovations, technology, training, underwater photography and travel opportunities.

With over 40% of the available stand space already booked by return exhibitors keen to tap into the affluent and influential audience of conference attendees and exhibition visitors, those companies and organisations exhibiting at the show already include the major Training Organisations; Equipment manufacturers and distributors; Diving destinations and leading diving groups.

Helping enhance the underwater experience, the Exhibition will feature everything that divers require; from cameras to compressors, regulators to rebreathers, snorkels to scooters, facemasks to fins – and not forgetting exotic overseas dive resorts and great liveaboard trips - the world’s leading equipment brands, accessories and travel destinations will all be on show at OZTeK’11.

Hmmm...

I know some New Zealanders are coming over to Oztek'11 to do Seminars like Dr Simon Mitchell and Pete Mesley.
I know some New Zealanders are coming over to Oztek'11 to just be part of the Crowd.
But are any New Zealanders actually Exhibiting :?:

Last OzTek'09, I remember meeting up with HoodGuy from up Cape Reinga way (I still owe him that Shark Book: we had a good discussion about how the book I was reading stated the colour effects/attraction for Sharks. I was all for better visible attire until I read the book - which put me in two minds. Since read another book by an Optometrist who analysed colour in regards to him getting a 80% better success rate fly-fishing.) who was promoting his colourful Hoods.
I also remember Dive Pacific exhibiting there as well (of which I subscribed). In my view, a good Magazine and the pick of the bunch as to what is out there in the Oceanian region...although something better might emerge

I was thinking of getting a small ($1750) space and exhibiting a generalised expression of Diving in New Zealand. Generalised in that I would gladely promote an assortment of Dive Companies that offer great Dive experiences - eg: Pete Mesley's Lermie Trips/Kermie Trips. Also promote generally, great New Zealand Diving like Wellington Shore Dives, South Island Lake Dives, etc.
Of course I would need at least one (1) New Zealander with me in the exhibiting stand to be there at all times to answer all enquiries and interest towards Diving in New Zealand. Hopefully a few will volunteer so there can be a rotation so as not to miss out on the Seminars, etc.
Obviously if I am to recieve a lot more input, I might upgrade (if available) to the medium size Stall, but I would really have to be convinced if I was to fork out for the large (if available) Stall ($5,000+).
I would like to take a FreeDiving (New Zealand being the current World's Best) and Technical Diving angle ( I would really need at least two New Zealanders, who partake of both, to be present at all times for the Exhibition Stall to answer all enquiries/interests) to start with as I feel (in my own personal opinion) that NZ Tech' can be just as good in many ways as the Tech scene here in Oz - if not better. I would also like to show off some good examples of some SDNZ photo's as well.
I've read through the OzTek setup and with a bit of a SignWriting background, I'm more than sure I can set-up a good exhibition Stall. I'm more than willing to follow the lead of what New Zealanders want (ie: Splash Gordon wishes to show a picture) with equality in regards to what I have to offer (been given) overall.

If anyone has any good advice to offer in regards to this - such advice would be more than welcome.
Upon this, if I feel that if such an Exhibition Stall will eventuate due to interest - then I will summon the courage to contact (?)...Samara, as well as New Zealand Tourism, as to both advice and input.

Cheers,
Jason

PS: Of course I will have to make some special T-shirts or Tops to wear for the occassion.
